Staff Sgt. Jesse Sherrill is a state police officer in New Hampshire. He was killed early Thursday morning in Portsmouth when a tractor-trailer plowed into his cruiser. 

It happened approximately 12:30 a.m. near Exit 5 on Interstate 95’s northbound side.

“Staff Sgt. Sherrill was a trooper’s trooper,” Noyes added, “a consummate, dedicated professional and a wonderful family man.”

At a press conference, State Police Col. Nathan Noyes remarked, “Staff Sgt. Sherrill was recognized as a trooper’s trooper, a consummate dedicated professional, and a wonderful family man.”

Who Was Jesse Sherrill?

Jesse Sherrill is a New Hampshire state police who was killed early Thursday morning.

According to Governor Chris Sununu, flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset Sunday. Sununu added, “He was an individual who nobly answered that call to serve and was unwavering and dedicated to the safety and well-being of all of his fellow Granite Staters.”

Sherrill began his career with the Hooksett Police Department in 2001 before joining the New Hampshire State Police in 2002.

When Sherrill’s cruiser was damaged, he was on construction as crews put a rumble strip on the road. The veteran trooper was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital but died.

The Lay’s potato chip company’s emblem can be seen on the tractor-trailer in question. The motorist was transported to the hospital but later released, according to police.

I-95’s two right-hand lanes were closed for roughly 10 hours near the incident scene before reopening Thursday morning. The tractor-cab trailers ended up nearly in adjoining woods, and cranes raised the trailer and cruiser out of the area.

At the time of the accident, a road crew was putting rumble strips along I-95.

Attorney General John Formella of New Hampshire issued a statement expressing his sympathy. But, Formella added, “Staff Sgt. Sherrill was an amazing member of the law enforcement community and, more importantly, a devoted husband, father, son, and brother.”
