Carlo had been a part of the Colorado Thunderbirds minor hockey team and participated in the 2009 World Championships. 

Carlo was considered a strong prospect and was expected to be a first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and chosen in the second round at draft by the Boston Bruins.
