He attended Yucaipa High School in Yucaipa, California. Prior to graduating, he committed to attend the University of Southern California (USC) on a scholarship to play college baseball for the USC Trojans baseball team.
Later, he decided to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks after he was selected in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft, forfeiting his college education in the process.
Davidson was sent to the minor leagues where he joined Yakima Bears, where he played a total of 72 games. He batted .241 (65-for-270) with two homers and 28 RBI…Rated by Baseball America as the third-best high school power hitter in the Pre-Draft Best Tools Rankings.
In 2010, Davidson played for the South Bend Silver Hawks of the Class A Midwest League, and hit 16 home runs. He performances earned him a promotion to the Visalia Rawhide of the Class A-Advanced California League later that season.
While with the Single-A Visalia, Davidson hit .277 with 39 doubles, 20 home runs and 106 RBI in 135 games. He was ranked 2nd among California League leaders in doubles. Davidson was selected by Baseball America as the No. 16 Prospect in the CL following the season.
Davidson began the 2013 season with the Reno Aces of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League. He appeared in the All-Star Futures Game in 2013, and was named the game’s most valuable player after he hit a go-ahead two-run home run.
He was later promoted by the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 11, 2013 after he had won the 2013 Triple-A Home Run Derby, hitting 11 home runs across three rounds. That night, he made his MLB debut with a a 1-for-3 performance as an injury substitute for Cody Ross.
