During the 2009-10 season, he upped his game by registering 35 points in 73 games, although he had a torrid start and lost games at the end of the season through facial fractures after being boarded by Alexei Ponikarovsky of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bailey recovered in time for the 2010-11 season but suffered another injury after he played 13 games with registering any goals. The Islanders sent him to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, in late November after Bailey had played 159 games in the NHL.

Bailey regained his form, scoring six goals and making a further 11 assists in just 11 games before being brought back up to play with the Islanders again. Since then, he has been in the NHL, making his last appearance for the Islander in the 2023-24 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
