Who Is Frederic Bastien?, Family, Books, Social Media: Born in 1969, Frederic Bastien was a Canadian author, historian, and journalist.

He graduated from the Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales in Geneva where he bagged a PhD in history and international politics.

Bastien was a history professor at Dawson College in Montreal, Canada. He’s the author of several books, including La Bataille de Londres (The Battle of London), which received the Richard-Arès Prize in 2013.

Somewhere along the line, Bastien ran to be the leader of the Parti Québécois in the 2020 Parti Québécois leadership election.

He finished fourth in the 2020 PQ leadership race against Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, Sylvain Gaudreault, and Guy Nantel.

Sadly, the Historian and former PQ candidate has died. Frederic Bastien passed away on Tuesday, May 16 at the age of 53. At the time of this writing, the cause of his death has not yet been made public.

His former opponent and PQ leader, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon reacted quickly to the announcement of his passing.

“J’ai eu le regret d’apprendre le décès de Frédéric Bastien, candidat à la chefferie du PQ 2020 et auteur de plusieurs publications, dont l’important ouvrage La bataille de Londres. Frédéric était un militant de toujours, qui a donné une grande partie de sa vie à la cause du Québec.

Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse et ses trois enfants. Mes pensées sont avec eux et le Parti Québécois leur offre tout notre soutien.” He wrote on Twitter.

Paul St-Pierre Plamondon’s message translates as;

“I was sorry to learn of the death of Frédéric Bastien, candidate for the leadership of the PQ 2020 and author of several publications, including the important work The Battle of London. Frédéric was a lifelong activist who gave a large part of his life to the cause of Quebec.

He is survived by his wife and three children. My thoughts are with them and the Parti Québécois offers them our full support.”

Comedian Guy Nantel said he was shocked as he wrote on Twitter;

“Je suis sous le choc d’apprendre le décès de Frédéric. Nous avons maintes fois conversé durant la course à la chefferie du PQ. Des discussions souvent corsées, mais toujours très enrichissantes. Un homme entier à l’esprit vif entièrement dévoué au Québec. Au revoir Frédéric.”

Guy Nantel’s message translates as;

“I am shocked to learn of Frederick’s death. We talked many times during the PQ leadership race. Discussions often full-bodied, but always very rewarding. A whole man with a quick mind entirely devoted to Quebec. Goodbye Frederick”

At the time of this report, the family was planning her final funeral arrangement and the details are yet to be finalized. We will keep you updated.

Although he was famous, there’s no relevant information regarding his parents. Their names, dates of birth, ages, and occupation were unknown at the time of this writing.

Wife

Frederic Bastien is survived by his lovely wife, Marie-Ève Lépine. It’s unclear when they met but they have been together for many years.

Marie-Ève Lépine lives her life away from the spotlight hence her date of birth, age, and occupation are unknown. She confirmed the death of her husband on Tuesday evening.

Frederic Bastien is survived by three children ages 11, 13, and 15 as of 2023. However, owing to the fact that the late historian hardly opened up about his family, there’s no information regarding his children
