Sotelo’s body was discovered one mile offshore of Wilmette in Lake Michigan on May 22. His family did not identify the cause of death, but the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed it.

On Saturday, officials confirmed that a body found in Lake Michigan last week was that of Daniel Sotelo, one of two missing University of Illinois-Chicago students.
Sotelo, who was 26, had been missing since April 30. On May 22, his remains were recovered from Lake Michigan near Wilmette.
Natally Brookson, his lover, was found dead on May 2 near Bryn Mawr and Lake Michigan in Chicago. She’d been gone since April 30 as well. She was a psychology honors student at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

However, his wallet and phone were discovered near his girlfriend’s body, according to his family.
