Bill McDermott was in a brief stay at his brother’s house when he suffered an accident. In July 2015, he stumbled and fell face-first into the stairs while walking down with a glass of water in hand. He awoke only to find himself in a pool of blood.

He shared that he remembered being alone and that nobody could hear him ask for help. Thus, he had to push himself to stay awake and drag himself to the street to seek assistance.

A piece of glass damaged his left eye, and the left side of his face and neck also had injuries. He sustained major lacerations, facial fractures, and extensive eye damage.

Bill McDermott underwent several procedures to treat the facial injuries and other surgeries to try and return his eye’s vision. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, the eye could not be saved and had to be removed.

According to Distractify, he had nine hours of surgery the night of the accident. He underwent more than ten procedures, but his left eye was beyond repair.

As a result, he started wearing sunglasses. Despite the tragic incident, he did not let it affect him and returned to work within two months. He even said that he turned it into an opportunity to improve his outlook on the world and aim higher with his work.
