What Did Marek Hecko Do?

On July 25th, Marek Hecko stabbed Adrian Ellingford, aged 44, twice in the back at a residence located in Nelson Grove, Chelmsford. Hecko, who resided in Rookes Crescent, Chelmsford, informed a witness that he had committed a “terrible” act. Following a trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, Hecko was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 26 years on Tuesday.

Hecko had been in a relationship with Stephanie Breame for around seven months. After they separated in May 2022, he remained fixated on her. Ms Breame subsequently entered into a romantic relationship with married Mr Ellingford. When he made a comment about someone being in the house, she woke up and found Mr Ellingford collapsed in bed with a knife embedded in his back. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the trial, the jury heard that Hecko, who was under the influence of alcohol, returned to the crime scene while the police were guarding it. Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe stated that “this was a pointless attack on Adrian, which has left two children without a father. I hope that they can move forward and find some closure now that Hecko is behind bars.” In court, Mr Ellingford’s wife read out a victim personal statement describing him as an “amazing husband, loving son, a caring brother, a friend to many and most importantly a truly brilliant father.”
