Ahead of Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Super Cup final, he was chosen to serve as the head referee. He was chosen on May 19, 2022, to preside over games at the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Marciniak would preside over the World Cup Final between France and Argentina on December 15, 2022, marking the first time a Polish referee will do so.

After recovering from a Covid-19 infection that prevented him from officiating games at the UEFA Euro 2020, he was identified as having tachycardia in 2021.
