Barrows is a member of the Biddle family from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is descendent directly from Mayflower passenger William Brewster, John Howland as well as Thomas Rogers. She has a father named Donald Byers Barrows, Jr. (born 1926) from Rumson, N.J, and her mother is Jeannette Ballantine who is happily married with Felix Molzer, a musician and director of the Monmouth Arts Center in New Jersey.
