The Hilton Head Island, South Carolina native Sterling Knight is a well kown actor for portraying the character of Alex in 17 Again. He is also notable for playing Chad Dylan Cooper in the Disney Channel sitcom Sonny with a Chance and its spinoff So Random!, Christopher Wilde in the Disney Channel Original Movie Starstruck and Zander Carlson in Melissa & Joey.
Sterling Knight Career
Knight made his acting debut in minor roles in Calm, Career Day and Hi-Jinks. His first role with Disney was in an episode of Hannah Montana, portraying Lily’s boyfriend Lucas, in 2007. Later in the year, he also appeared in two episodes of The Closer. Knight appeared in Out of Jimmy’s Head and Grey’s Anatomy in 2008. He played the role of Chad Dylan Cooper, an egotistical and self-centered cast member of Mackenzie Falls and self-proclaimed Hollywood legend in Sonny with a Chance in 2009. He made his film debut playing Alex O’Donnell, Matthew Perry/Zac Efron’s son in 17 Again.
Knight portrayed teen heart-throb Christopher Wilde in the 2010 Disney Channel Original Movie(DCOM) Starstruck. According to Knight’s comments on Twitter, because he joined the cast so late, he only sang one song on the soundtrack, the opening song. Knight’s character’s remaining songs were sung by Drew Ryan Scott. His next project was the movie Elle: A Modern Cinderella Tale with Ashlee Hewitt. He portrays Ty Parker, a singer/songwriter who’s looking for a change in his music and then finds a girl recording in a studio and when she leaves him, Knight goes on a journey to find her. Although the movie was about the girl named Elle, he portrayed a crucial part. The movie was released in April 2010.
Knight returned to be in the Sonny in 2011, with a Chance spinoff sketch comedy series So Random!. Knight’s recurring characters on So Random! included Possibly Sarcastic Skip, Jimmy Sparrow and Dwayne Platowski and his impressions included Ralph Fiennes (as Lord Voldemort), Taylor Lautner (as Jacob Black) Lucas Cruikshank (as Fred) and Justin Bieber. The show was cancelled after one season.
Knight starred as Shane Seedwell in the 2012 action thriller film Transit co-starring Jim Caviezel and Elisabeth Rohm. In 2013 he appeared as a guest star on Melissa & Joey as Lennox’s boyfriend and later fiancé Zander. In 2014, Knight returned for the 4th and final season. He starred in “The Hotwives of Orlando” a Hulu exclusive show as Billy in 2014.
Knight starred in the 2015, action crime drama film Landmine Goes Click as Chris. He guest-starred in 2016, in two episodes of NBC TV show Crowded, where he played the love interest of Miranda Cosgrove’s character. In 2017, he portrayed Cameron Fullbright in the go90 comedy series In the Rough. Knight also had a supporting role in the movie Different Flowers. In the sci-fi drama The Man from Earth: Holocene, he played the role of Philip. Knight will star in a television adaptation Katy Keene as Randy Von Ronson in 2019.
