On January 13, 2016, he would play against the Ottawa Senators and score his first NHL goal, assisting the Ducks in advancing to the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Theodore’s time on the ice during their first-round game against Nashville gradually decreased as a result of mistakes, and the team ultimately lost in the first round.

He estimated that he switched teams more than 15 times during the course of the rest of the season between the Ducks and the Gulls. He participated in the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs once more, and on April 17, 2017, he scored his first postseason goal.

But his time with the Ducks was soon coming to an end. Theodore was traded by the Ducks to the Vegas Golden Knights on June 21, 2017, during the NHL Expansion Draft, allowing the Ducks to keep seasoned defenseman Josh Manson and guarantee the Golden Knights would select Clayton Stoner.

Theodore and the Golden Knights agreed to a seven-year, $36.4 million contract extension prior to the 2018–19 campaign on September 24, 2018.

He had missed nearly two weeks of training camp at the time of the signing because of the contract disagreement. The contract’s duration was a major point of contention because the team wanted a deal that lasted longer than two years.

Despite this, he had a career-high 37 points in 79 games, helping the Golden Knights to another Stanley Cup playoff appearance.

Theodore trained in Vancouver alongside Devon Toews and Morgan Rielly after their elimination. He had surgery to treat his testicular cancer before the 2019–20 season.
