Morrison was born in Murray, Kentucky. He moved to Vail, Colorado in 1984 where he lived throughout Middle and High School, and afterwards he moved to Crested Butte. As a child he lived with his mom, a surgical nurse.

During his years of skiing, Morrison competed on large mountains throughout the world, including doing back-flips off 80-foot cliffs. He has been interviewed on television several times. Morrison was sponsored by K2 skis in 1992 and split ways with the company in 2016, during which time the company produced several models of skis bearing his namesake.
