Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov, born September 20, 1988, is a former professional mixed martial artist from Russia. He competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight division, and he held the title from April 2018 to March 2021, making him the longest-reigning UFC Lightweight Champion.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has managed to transcend ethnic complexities and become one of Russia’s most popular sportsmen. The Russian superstar is often cited as the greatest lightweight fighter in UFC history, after he retired with a perfect 29-0 record and remained undefeated throughout his professional career, including 13 fights in the UFC.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Dad: Who is Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father?
Abdulmanap Magomedovich Nurmagomedov born December 10, 1962, died July 3, 2020, was a Russian military veteran, former judoka, and martial arts coach. In September 2019, he was named the country’s most successful combat sambo coach by the Russian record books. He was best known as the father and trainer of retired UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and the trainer of current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makachev.
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was born in the village of Sil’di in the Tumadinsky district. He graduated from Poltava University of Economics and Trade in 1987 with a degree in Accounting and Economics. He had two sons, Magomed and Khabib, and a daughter, Amina. He, like many Dagestan children, began his sports career with freestyle wrestling, which he practiced from an early age. While serving in the Soviet Army, he began practicing judo and sambo.
His first major success as a coach came when his younger brother Nurmagomed Nurmagomedov won the 1992 World Sambo Championships with Ukraine. During his coaching career, he coached a total of 18 world champions. In late April 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Russia, Nurmagomedov was admitted to Makhachkala City Hospital No. 2 with bilateral pneumonia caused by COVID-19.
After being flown by private jet to Moscow in early May, his condition deteriorated rapidly and he died of complicati ons from COVID-19 on July 3, 2020. He was 57 years old. He was buried in his native village on 4 July. After his death, his son Khabib announced his retirement from mixed martial arts after defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. The battle he dedicated to the memory of his father.

The mother of Khabib isn’t known but he never stops speaking about how she encourages him with her words by telling him not to come home when he lost a fight and the role she played in his retirement as he made a promise to her never to fight again.
From the little Khabib has said about his mother, she is known to influence her son positively and since she thinks it’s time for him to retire, she made him promise her never to fight again and that is a promise Khabib is never going to break.
