Mazhar Alanson is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on February 13, 1950 in Ankara, Turkey. Mazhar Alanson was an actor at Ankara State Theatre between 1972 and 1982. He played a variety of important roles in major plays.
He played in several TV commercials and some films. In the film Arkadaşım Şeytan (Demon, My Friend), directed by Atıf Yılmaz, he played the role of Mephistopheles. He wrote also the film score. In his second film Her Şey Çok Güzel Olacak (“Everything’s Gonna Be Alright”) directed by Ömer Vargı, Mazhar Alanson shared the leading roles with Cem Yılmaz and Ceyda Düvenci. The film, which he also wrote the score for, became the highest-grossing movie in 1998. He shared in 2002 the leading role again with Cem Yılmaz in the film Yıldızlı Pekiyi (“A+” (letter grade in school)). The same year, he played in the TV series Çekirdek Aile (“Nuclear family”) produced for Kanal D. In 2006, he appeared in the Cem Yılmaz movie Hokkabaz (“The Magician”).
Aside from the band, he released two solo albums: Herşey Çok Güzel Olacak (1999) and Türk Lokumuyla Tatlı Rüyalar (2002).
He married Hale Alanson in 1972. They had two children, and they divorced in 2003. Mazhar married Biricik Suden again, a fashion designer.
In high school, he began playing guitar. Mazhar, Fuat Guner, and Sadik Kuyas formed Kaygisizlar (“The Carefree”) in 1966. They covered the music of the Beatles and Crosby, Stills & Nash, and collaborated with Baris Manco, a well-known Turkish pop singer. Ozkan Ugur joined later and the group was renamed MFO in 1972 after the initials of its members. While Ozkan was on military duty, Mazhar, Fuat and their first album Turkuz Turku Zigiririz (“We’re Turkish, we’ll sing Turku”) were released. Gullerin Icinden, the album’s title track (“From in between the roses”) was a hit that brought the group to a wider audience. Galip Boransu joined the group in 1974 and Ayhan Siimoglu joined. The quintet was renamed Ipucu Beslisi (“Clue Quintet”) in 1974. After a brief period, the band disbanded and MFO began to perform as a trio.
MFÖ represented Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in 1985 with Didai Didai Dai (placed 14) and in 1988 with Sufi (placed 15), both written and performed by themselves.
