He was born on February 4th, 1998, in the city of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Malik attended a high school in Lepanto, Arkansas, which was called the East Poinsett County High School. He later got transferred to Bentonville High School in Bentonville, Arkansas.

He finally completed high school in Bentonville and immediately got into the University of Kentucky. His family told him to study at the University of Arkansas but he went with the University of Kentucky.

 At that time, the Charlotte Hornets selected him in the 1st round. Later, he played for the team for overall five seasons until 2021.
