Al-Misslam worked for the Qatari news channel Al Kass TV and had been covering the World Cup. Breaking the news in their live broadcast, the TV channel stated that, the circumstances around his death are unclear.

His death comes a few days after influential American soccer journalist Grant Wahl died in Qatar while covering the World Cup. Khalid al-Misslam died on December 11, 2022
