Benzema became the subject of a then-French record football transfer in the year 2009. This was when he joined Real Madrid for a whopping €35 million.
After struggling to establish himself in his debut season, he eventually established a consistent goalscoring rate with the club, most notably as part of a highly rated trio with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale dubbed BBC.

Karim Benzema career
Benzema began playing football for his hometown team, Bron Terraillon SC, when he was eight years old. While he was a member of the team, his teammates gave him the nickname “Coco,” and after he scored two goals against the Lyon youth academy in a game for under-10s, the largest club in the region began to take notice.
In an effort to sign the young player, representatives from Lyon personally visited Serge Santa Cruz, president of Bron Terraillon in the 1990s, but Santa Cruz declined.
After speaking with the player’s father, the team decided to allow Benzema to participate in a trial with Lyon. Following the trial, Benzema officially joined Lyon and was admitted to the team’s academy.
Benzema advanced swiftly through the academy’s youth divisions. He worked as a ballboy for Lyon senior team games and did well in school, earning the label of “discreet and respectful” student.
Benzema amassed 38 goals at the under-16 level in the French domestic league for these young athletes, the Championnat National des 16 Ans.
Benzema was promoted to the club’s reserve team prior to the 2004–05 season. This team competed in the amateur Championnat de France, the fourth division of French football.
He only participated in the team’s fall season, but his ten goals helped the Lyon reserve team place second in its division.
With Florent Malouda, John Carew, and Sylvain Wiltord all leaving the team for the 2007–08 season, Benzema changed to the number 10 shirt and was given the lead striker position.
He responded with 31 goals in 51 games after developing a unique bond with new manager Alain Perrin. He led the league in goals with 20, contributed to Lyon’s first-ever double with four goals in the Champions League, one in the Coupe de la Ligue, and a total of six goals in six Coupe de France games.
His hat-trick against Metz on September 15 and his equalizing free kick goal against Derby du Rhône rival Saint-Étienne in the 90th minute were two of his season’s more impressive performances.
On July 1, 2009, it was revealed that Lyon and Real Madrid had agreed to sell Karim Benzema. The transfer fee is set at €35 million, with incentives allowing it to be increased to €41 million.
Eight days later after the arrangement between Lyon and Real Madrid was reached, Benzema passed his medical exam with flying colors, and after that, he signed a six-year contract. He was formally introduced as a Real Madrid player later that evening at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, just like Kaká and Cristiano Ronaldo before him.
On July 20, Benzema made his Real Madrid debut as a halftime substitute in the team’s first preseason match in Dublin against Irish club Shamrock Rovers.
Benzema was praised by pundits during his time at Real Madrid for his work-rate and tactical intelligence off the ball, as well as his positional sense and attacking movement as a forward, which often draws opposing defenders out of position and creates spaces for his teammates; as such, he formed a strong offensive partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo during the latter’s time at the club.
Indeed, Benzema’s movement drew defenders away from Ronaldo, allowing him to make attacking runs into the center of the area from the left wing, effectively making the Frenchman act as a false 9.
