Cinema director, screenwriter, actor, composer, producer, and music director S. Justin Selvaraj, also known by his stage name S. J. Suryah, is an Indian who has mostly worked in the Tamil film industry. He wanted to be an actor, but he began directing while working with Vasanth and Sabapathy.

S. J. Suryah made his directorial debut with Vaali in 1999 and its success catapulted him to stardom. His other notable films include Kushi (2000), New (2004), Aire Abe (2005), and Isai (2015). He made his acting debut in New and appeared in films such as Kalvanin Kadhali (2006), Thirumagan (2007), Vyabari (2007) and as an antagonist in Spyder (2017), Mersal (2017) and Maanaadu (2021).

After completing his schooling near his birthplace in Vasudevanalur near Sankarankovil in South Tamil Nadu, S. J. Suryah moved to Chennai to study physics at Loyola University. He got the chance to continue his studies at the Institute of Technology in Madurai, but he declined the offer and stayed in Chennai hoping to become an actor in Tamil cinema.

To become financially independent, he started working as a hotel and steward before accepting a teaching position from K. Bhagyaraj. He then worked as an assistant director in the team of Aasai (1995) under Vasant and Sundara Purushan (1996) under Sabapathy and also appeared in uncredited acting.

Suryah began pre-production of his directing project Aezhumazhai vs. Chitra, a romantic comedy starring Silambarasan and Asin in January 2005, and the team released images taken from a promotional photo shoot. However, the film, which was intended to be produced by S.S. Chakravarthy, ultimately failed in development and the parties moved on to other ventures.

In 2016, S. J. Suryah appeared in the drama Iraivi.
