Dwight Twilley obituary

Written by Andrew Henderson — 0 Views

The Top 20 smash songs “I’m on Fire” (1975) and “Girls” (1984) are most notably associated with Dwight Twilley (June 6, 1951–October 18, 2023), an American singer and songwriter of pop/rock music. He is known for his power pop-influenced tracks. Through the end of 1978, Twilley and Phil Seymour were known as the Dwight Twilley Band, and after that, Twilley performed alone.

Twilley and Phil Seymour first came together in 1967 in Tulsa in a theater where they were watching The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. They quickly started writing songs and making recordings together. Under the name Oister, they continued their collaboration for the ensuing years. Twilley performed guitar and piano, and Seymour played drums and bass. They both sang lead and harmony vocals. Twilley also authored all the songs.
