On December 29, 2005, Bell, then 19 years old, and a friend of his were driving from Malibu to Los Angeles when, while stopped at a red light on California State Route 1, the two were struck by an oncoming vehicle while sitting at a red light. Reportedly, the driver of the other car had fallen asleep at the wheel while making a turn, resulting in a head-on collision with Bell’s car, a 1966 Ford Mustang, totaling it.
