Djan Faridz is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on August 5, 1950 in Jakarta, Indonesia. In 2004, Faridz began to be involved in the Muslim group Nahdlatul Ulama, becoming the Jakarta branch’s treasurer by 2009.

On October 17, 2011 he was chosen as the new Minister of Public Housing, which led to his withdrawing a bid to run for Governor of Jakarta. Also in 2011 he was chosen to lead the Jakarta chapter of Nahdlatul Ulama until 2014.

In 2000, the Indonesia Corruption Watch reported that Faridz was granted non-transparent funds to finance power substations. In 2004, Faridz was the leader of the reconstruction of the market for textiles at Tanah Abang, which sparked controversy. He has excellent relations with politicians and military leaders including the president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The first venture Faridz started was a welding stall which later grew into a business selling construction materials. In 1996, Faridz created PT Dizamatra Powerindo, a private contractor, which is utilized by Pertamina. Faridz has also been involved in property speculation and was a an active member of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization.

In 2009, Faridz was elected as a representative of Jakarta at the Regional Representative Council with a total of 200,000 votes, placing third overall. He received most of his support from Nahdlatul Ulama and businessment. As a representative, he focused on preserving Betawi culture and increasing Jakarta’s economic capabilities, with a focus on the traditional markets.
