Kaskade was born Ryan Gary Raddon in Chicago, Illinois on February 25, 1971. He is the son of Lynda Toliver and Gerald Hollis Raddon, and his brother, Rich, is an entrepreneur and film producer. Kaskade attended Brigham Young University in Utah after graduating from Glenbrook North High School, where he perfected his DJ skills in his dorm.

Kaskade served a two-year mission in Japan with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was 19, and when he returned to the United States in 1992, he settled in Salt Lake City. Meanwhile, Kaskade began DJing a monthly session at Club Manhattan in the mid-1990s, and he went to San Francisco in 2000 to work as an A&R assistant at Om Records. He secured a three-album agreement with the label after mixing volume three of the “Sounds of Om” series.
