His full name is Dayotchanculle Oswald Upamecano. Dayot Upamecano was born in in Évreux, Normandy, France and is of Bissau-Guinean descent. Upamecano began playing football with local club Évreux at a very young age, alongside the likes of Ousmane Dembélé.

He was recruited into the youth academy of Valenciennes in 2013. He played for two years. He has a very defensive body at a young age, hence, attracted the attention of scouts all around Europe.

In July, 2015, Upamecano was signed by Red Bulls Salzburg at a fee of €2.2 million. Dayot went on to play for Red Bulls Salzburg farm team, FC Liefering GmbH

In the international level, Upamecano represented France in under-16 and finished third in the Aegean Cup in 2014. He was named the competition’s best defender. Dayot moved up the ladder to the under-17. He played in the 2015 UEFA European Under-17 Championship where France emerged as the Champions. Upamecano was named in the team of the tournament.

On 25th September, 2020, he made his debut for France senior national team in the UEFA nations league. Upamecano is among the 26-man squad in the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup.
