Dawson Alan Knox was born on November 14, 1996, in Brentwood, Tennessee, United States. He attended St. Paul Christian Academy and Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Dawson Knox played wide receiver and quarterback at high school. He joined the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) as a walk-on fullback in 2015 and had played college football at Ole Miss until 2018.

Dawson Knox was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round with the 96th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He signed his rookie contract with the team on June 14, 2019.[9]
