Born David Sanford “Sandy” Gottesman to a Jewish family on April 26, 1926, in New York, he earned his wealth as investment advisor in many projects. A graduate of Trinity College who holds an MBA from Harvard University, Gottesman started his investment advisory company First Manhattan Co. in 1964. The company specializes in providing investment managing services to partnership, trusts, institutional clients, individuals and retirement accounts. Being a longtime friend of Warren Buffett, Gottesman became an early investor in Berkshire Hathaway, and later in 2003, he joined its Board of Directors. Currently, he owns Berkshire Hathaway’s shares worth $3 billion. Known for his philanthropic work, in 2008, Gottesman and his wife, Ruth, gave $25 million to the Yeshiva University medical school.
