Coy Randall Gibbs as originally born before his demise was an assistant coach with the Washington Redskins, and co-owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. He was 49 years before his sudden demise.

Coy Gibbs lived in North California but was originally from Fayetteville, Arkansas. During his time at Stanford, Gibbs was a linebacker. He led his team in tackles during his senior year. He joined the Redskins in 2004 as an assistant for offensive quality control and stayed there until 2007 when his father was rehired as head coach of the team.

In the Craftsman Truck Series in 2000, Gibbs made his NASCAR debut alongside his brother J. D. in the No. 18 Chevrolet. He started racing professionally in 2001, finishing 10th in the points standings in both 2001 and 2002 with two top-five finishes.

He replaced Mike McLaughlin in the Busch Series in 2003, and David Stremme won the race for Rookie of the Year.

Joe Gibbs Racing Motocross (JGRMX), which competes in the AMA motocross and supercross championships, was founded in August 2007, according to Gibbs.

The NASCAR Cup Series teams were less than a mile away in Huntersville, North Carolina. Gibbs oversaw the operation with the help of motocross industry veteran David Evans.

Gibbs died peacefully in his sleep on November 6, 2022, the same night his son Ty won the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship for 2022. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
