Carsten Lund is one of the most popular and richest Computer Scientist who was born on July 1, 1963 in Aarhus, Central Denmark Region, Denmark. He is also well-known for his work with Sanjeev Ara, Madhu Sudan and Rajeev Motwani that proved probabilistically-checkable proofs of NP-hard problems. They were used to prove hardness results in approximation problem. In 2001, he and his coauthors were awarded the Godel Prize.

Since August 1991, he has worked for AT&T Laboratories.

Lund was a coauthor on two of the five papers presented at the 1990 Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science. These papers characterized complexity classes like PSPACE, NEXPTIME and NEXTIME in terms of interactive evidence systems. This work was part of Lund’s 1991 Ph.D. thesis at the University of Chicago. He was a runner up for the 1991 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award.
