Throughout 2014 and into 2015, the band continued their own four-wheel drive (4WD) tour of Australia five times, gradually expanding the size of each event.

Ocean Alley started work on their debut studio album, Lost Tropics, at the end of 2015. Up to the day they began recording, several tracks were still in the final stages of completion.

The band later claimed that because they did not question what they were recording, this method of production was productive. They went on tour with The Ruminaters in Australia over the summer of 2015–16, and in March they made their first trip to New Zealand.

In January 2017, Ocean Alley formally started recording their second album, Chiaroscuro. In March 2017, the album’s “Overgrown” lead single was made public.

The band spent the first part of 2017 on the road, performing at events like The Hills Are Alive and Groovin’ The Moo in Maitland as well as supporting Australian acts like Tash Sultana, The Cat Empire, and Xavier Rudd across Australia.
