African Celebrities Who Have Lost Their Kids To Swimming Pool Drowning
The unanticipated death of the son of the Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, widely known as Davido came as a shock to everyone in the world most especially, his fanbase.
On Monday 31st October 2022, rumors were being speculated on social media about the untimely demise of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi Adeleke whom he had with his fianceé, Chioma.
The youngster was reported to have drowned in a swimming pool in his father’s premises in Banana Island. The news was confirmed by some verified accounts on social media.
The Lagos State Police Command also confirmed the news and also the arrest of eight domestic workers of Davido who were brought in for questioning.
Davido and his fianceé were said to have traveled to Ibandan for a family gathering, leaving their son in the care of his nanny. The boy drowned and was rushed to Evercare Hospital in Lekki but was pronounced dead after a short while.
Well, Davido isn’t the only African musician to loose his child through swimming pool drowning. Some African musician were once subjected to the same fate and w have compiled the list.
- D’Banj
D’Banj and his wife Lineo Didi Kilgrow also lost their son Daniel in 2018 after he drowned in the family pool at their Lagos home. Just recently, the young child had celebrated his first birthday.

2. Jannie du Plessis
Jannie du Plessis, a former Springbok player, and his wife Ronel suffered the loss of their 10-month-old son Jan Nathaniel last year when he drowned in the pool at their Krugersdorp residence. On the same day that his renowned father celebrated his 39th birthday, the young son passed away.
3. Lebo M
Lebo M, a musician, disclosed that his first-born son had drowned earlier this year. The entertainer claimed in an interview with Podcast and Chill conducted last month that his son Thembalethu’s passing served as one of the primary catalysts for his sobriety.
The 14-month-old son of Lebo and his second wife, Nandi Ndlovu, unfortunately perished in their home in Dainfern after drowning. Lebo M fell into profound despair as a result of the tragedy and turned to drink for comfort.,

It will be advisable for parents to keep eagle eyes on their wards, especially when they have a swimming pool in their premises. Loosing a child is one of the most painful experiences but incidents like that of Davido’s and the above-mentioned musicians can also be prevented.
